Cars in German City Found Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Authorities reported they were notified by a man who found a car in Hanau marked with reddish substance

Roughly 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a official communication.

Law enforcement state they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The liquid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then found numerous other vandalized automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement report initial examinations suggest the liquid was probably human blood.

"At present there remains no lead as to its source; officials are currently not informed of any physical harm in association with the incident," they added.

Local authorities announced they were trying "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for tips.

A high-ranking representative commented the incident rendered him without words and needed to be resolved rapidly.

"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at people of immigrant origin in 2020.
